研究当代史学趋势时首先应了解与其相关联的历史哲学、史学理论和历史理论的基本概念。西方史学的发展经历了数次重大转折。在史学研究理论和方法上,史家们力图弥合现代与后现代史学理论,强调客观性与主观性、科学性与哲学性相结合,认为史学的未来出路在于将社会学研究方法与文化研究方法结合起来进行跨学科研究。当代史学发展的主要趋势对于教育史研究有诸多启发。教育史研究者应关注世界史学发展前沿,并在此基础上思考诸如教育史学观念的更新、教育史研究领域的拓展以及教育史编纂方法的多元化等重要理论问题和实践问题。

It is important to study the trend of contemporary historiography and fully understand certain related basic concept such as philosophy of history, theory of historiography and historical theory. Western historiography has experienced several important transitions. In the theory and method of historical research, historians try to bridge modern and post-modern theories of history, which emphasizes the combination of objectivity and subjectivity, science and philosophy. Some scholars believe that the future research trend of historiography is to combine sociological research methods with cultural research methods, which have implications for the study of educational history. Consequently the researcher of educational history should pay attention to the frontier of world history development and should consider some important theoretical and practical issues, such as the renewal of the concept of educational history, the expansion of the research field of educational history, and the diversification of the compilation methods of educational history.
