Abstract:
With the development of globalization and internationalization, the advancement of science and technology, as well as the enhancement of the idea of life-long learning, higher education has witnessed constant changes in recent years. The term of “public good(s)”, which once dominated the field of higher education, is now facing various challenges. The report from UNESCO—Rethinking education: towards a global common good? proposes to redefine education in relation to “common good(s)”. Against this backdrop, through systematically and comprehensively analysis of the concepts of “public good(s)” and “common good(s)” and an overview of the new trends and changes in global higher education, this paper explains why the concept of “common good(s)” is more applicable to global higher education and affirms the important role of higher education in building “a community of shared future for mankind”.
