摘要:
世界一流大学的作用不仅仅体现在人才培养、科学研究、社会服务等大学职能方面,更体现在它的符号意义,它像“理性神话”一样影响着其他大学组织,甚至是政府的行为。本文认为世界一流大学发挥“理性神话”的方式是合法性机制。具体而言,世界大学排名的兴起,并日益受到重视,界定了何为世界一流大学,同时强化了世界一流大学的社会认知合法性;研究型大学的垄断地位构建了世界一流大学的规范合法性;各国兴起的“世界一流大学运动”赋予了世界一流大学以政治合法性,并逐渐形成文化—认知层面的合法性;世界一流大学的制度扩散一方面传播并强化其规范合法性,另一方面也提高了其社会认知合法性,这又与那些有留学背景的学者和大学管理者直接相关。
Abstract:
What a world-class university can do is not only embodied in teaching, research and service, but also in its significance of being a symbol of a rationalized myth, which may affect the actions of other higher education institutions and even governments. This paper holds that the way of the world first-class universities to play “rationalized myth” is the legitimacy mechanism. Firstly, the world university rankings define what is a world-class university to some extent, which strengthens the social cognitive legitimacy of world-class universities. Secondly, research universities in the monopoly position?construct the normative legitimacy of world-class universities. Thirdly, world-class university movement confers world-class universities political legitimacy, and gradually constructs the cultural cognitive legitimacy of world-class universities. Finally, because of scholars and university administrators with overseas studying or working experience, institutional diffusion of world-class universities spreads and strengthens the normative legitimacy of world-class universities at one hand, and boost its social cognitive legitimacy on the other.
