摘要:
校训是大学的文化名片,蕴含着大学的办学宗旨,彰显出大学追求的文化价值。哈佛大学的“真理”校训经过三任哈佛校长的阐述与诠释后内涵正朝着应然的方向发展。普林斯顿大学有关“上帝力量”的校训在两位美国总统校友的隔空呼应之下走上了“服务国家,服务人类”的新轨道。帝国理工学院富含殖民主义标签的校训在源自美国“黑人的命也是命”的反种族主义浪潮中,被校方果断而迅速地弃之一隅。
Abstract:
University mottoes serve as cultural signatures that encapsulate the institution’s educational philosophy and the cultural values it aspires to promote. Harvard University’s motto of “Veritas” (Truth) has evolved significantly through interpretations by three of its presidents, moving towards a more ideal representation of its foundational principles. Princeton University’s initial motto focusing on “God’s Power” has, influenced by the legacies of two U.S. Presidents who were alumni, transitioned to emphasize a commitment to “service to the nation and humanity.” Imperial College’s original motto, which carried connotations of colonialism, was decisively abandoned in response to the global anti-racism movements sparked by “Black Lives Matter” in the United States.
